Today the USS Bonhomme Richard will leave San Diego for its new home port of Sasebo, Japan.
The amphibious assault ship will be reliving the USS Essex as the only permanently forward deployed amphibious assault ship.
In Japan the two crews will perform a hull swap … this means that the crews will switch ships and the Essex with its new crew will make way for San Diego.
