Protesters will gather at San Diego’s Federal Building at noon for 550 San Diego janitors that say they could lose their jobs without immigration reform. The protesters believe that the janitors would be eligible for the “pathway to citizenship” if congress was able to move on immigration reform. They will call for the President to suspend I-9 employment terminations until congress acts.

Also at noon San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria is announcing that the California State Historic Resources Commission named the North Park Water Tower an official historic site.

Today is National Bike to Work Day. In San Diego organizers expect over 7000 people to hop on their bikes this morning. Hundreds of pit stops have been set up all over San Diego County for the riders. Even County Supervisor Dave Roberts is getting in the act… He’s riding from Solana Beach to San Diego.

Camp Pendleton is hosting the Fifth Annual Recon Challenge this morning. Beginning at 4:00 AM participants will jump from a tower into a pool, assemble an M240 rifle underwater, and then race over an obstacle course.

More than 3000 students are graduating at Cal State San Marcos this morning at 10:30. And over the weekend more than 9000 student will walk at San Diego State University’s commencements.

And finally tonight at 6:00 El Cajon’s Recreation Department is hosting a “Kids Night Out Pool Party”. Parents and their children will be whooping it up at the Fletcher Hills Center and Pool at 2345 Center Place in El Cajon.

Police are on the lookout for an armed man that tried to kidnap a San Diego State University student over the weekend. According to authorities the suspect… armed with a black handgun … tried to kidnap a 19-year-old girl but the young woman turned and ran away escaping her attacker. He is described as a white man, 30′s or 40′s, clean shaven, about 6-feet tall, 180-pounds, with short blond hair, blue eyes, wearing rectangular framed glasses, jeans, blue T-shirt, a tan jacket. Anyone with any info should call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

San Diego’s Board of Education is going to take up the Twerking video controversy today. 3 male high school students of color and 28 white female high school students were suspended for making a video in which the young ladies were performing the provocative dance. Today the school board is going to talk about the severity of the sentence and the public can comment as well. Public comment will be held at some time after 2:00 pm at the Eugene Brucker Education Center, Room 2249, 4100 Normal St.

And in other government today both San Diego’s City Council and the County Board of Supervisors are meeting.

The Council is talking about changing some of its rules for outdoor dining and letting microbreweries have restaurants.

The Board is talking about incentive programs for people that put solar panels at their homes.

Sailors and Marines in the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group return from an eight-month deployment today. While on deployment the group worked with many countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates. Coming into port are the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu, the amphibious transport dock USS Green Bay, and amphibious dock landing USS Rushmore.

Conversely this afternoon at 1:00 the amphibious landing ship USS Pearl Harbor is deploying for four-months. They are slated to help with humanitarian missions in countries like Papua New Guinea, Samoa, and Tonga.

It is going to be hot in San Diego County today. We are going to have temperatures 10 to 20 degrees above normal. But tomorrow things should start to cool off and we’ll be back to normal on Wednesday.

This morning San Diego’s City Council Audit Committee will talk about pothole repairs. Councilman Kevin Faulconer thinks the current system for tracking and fixing potholes needs an overhaul. The committee is holding hearing on a proposal to vote.

This afternoon the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit is returning home. While on their eight-month deployment the 1200 Maries stopped in Thailand, Bali, Australia, Oman, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.

At 10:30 this morning Ice Age bison bones will be unveiled. The bones discovered by Caltrans workers during highway construction near Bonsall are the first fossilized bison found in Southern California. The 200,000 year-old fossils are now at San Diego’s Natural History Museum.

Fire Danger in San Diego. Hot temperatures, high winds, and low humidity prompt the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag Warning for Southern California. Temperatures are expected to hit upwards of 90 degrees today with humidity falling below 10 percent. At this point the Red Flag Warning will be in effect until 6:00 PM Friday.

A man accused of raping women he met through the dating web site Christian Mingle is going to be in court today. The preliminary hearing for 37-year-old Sean Patrick Banks starts at 8:40 this morning in El Cajon.

Today at 10:00 AM a new Navy helicopter squadron is being created. The Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 35 … the Magicians … will have both manned and unmanned aircraft. The ceremony will be at Naval Air Station North Island.

Banning the retail sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits is one step closer to becoming law. San Diego City Council’s Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee says yes to the amendment to the municipal code. It now goes to the full City Council for a vote. If it passes businesses will have to prove the pets come from animal shelters to be able to sell them.

Today at 12:15 in the afternoon the Salvation Army and County Supervisor Bill Horn will commemorate the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer at the County Administration Building.

At 1:30 PM in Vista the young woman accused of more than 300 graffiti crimes will be arraigned.

And tonight the education activist group UpforEd is holding a meeting to talk about the proposed budget for the San Diego Unified School District. The meeting starts at 6:30 in the Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress St.

This morning the USS Mobile Bay is returning home to San Diego. The guided-missile cruiser and its 5000 sailors spent their 8-month deployment in the Middle East and Western Pacific attached to the Johns C Stennis Strike Group. Making a brief stop in San Diego with the Mobile Bay is the aircraft carrier John C. Stennis. They are on their way to their home port of Bremerton Washington.

At 11:00 AM today labor leaders, immigrant rights activists, and politicians are talking to the media about their plans for May Day. May Day is the internationally celebrated Labor Day and traditionally a day of pro-labor protests. In San Diego the immigrants’ rights movement has attached itself to this day because of our proximity to the border.

And this afternoon at 1:00 the County of San Diego is going to talk about a joining new program called “Text4Baby”. The statewide wide program sends text messages to pregnant woman and new mothers promoting healthy lifestyles.

CAMP PENDLETON — A female Marine was convicted Wednesday of "attempted adultery" and lying to investigators in a case involving allegations of sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse in the enlisted ranks.

The Marine, a staff sergeant with 17 years' service, could receive a year in the brig and a bad-conduct discharge when the judge, Lt. Col. Leon Francis, announces the sentence Thursday.

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- A female Marine who says she was raped by a Marine in her squadron after a night of drinking is being tried at Camp Pendleton by special court martial for adultery, making false statements and impeding an investigation, it was reported today.

The woman, whose identity was withheld, and her alleged rapist are both staff sergeants who were assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39 at Camp Pendleton in March 2012, when they had sex in a hotel room after several hours of drinking, according to U-T San Diego.

North Korea Threatens San Diego In Propaganda Video

In a North Korean propaganda video the upscale San Diego neighborhood of Point Loma is mentioned by name.

Helen Haekyung Kim Korean Language & Studies Professor at San Diego State University says

“This video said that N. Korea would attack 4 areas and one of them was Point Loma in California. It’s North Korean video telling us that North Korea will launch missiles targeting at Washing D.C, Colorado Springs, Point Loma in California and Hawaii.”

I dont think anyone is taking this seriously.

Sounds to me like North Korea has discovered google and typed in the words U.S. Military.

But it is nice to make the list.
